Truthfully, there are many things in fitness that are important to understand.

One thing in particular, however, is what I most often discuss with frustrated clients, friends, and family.

This one thing when missing from a conversation is often the root of relentless frustration and emotional stress.

This one thing is…

Context.

Context can be defined as “the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood and assessed.”

In fitness, every story of success or failure has context behind it.

  • Your co-workers 30 pound weightloss journey.
  • Your friend’s ability to eat dessert every night and maintain their weight.
  • Your own struggles with your fitness consistency.

You get the idea.

Everything, good or bad, has a story.

If you get frustrated when comparing yourself to others without knowing the full story, you’re doing yourself a massive injustice.

If you buy-in to a bullshit weightloss product because of the hype but neglect to look for the context at which the product claims lie, then the only weightloss you’ll be seeing is in the weight of your wallet.

I am so unbelievably passionate about this.

Please, think critically before you compare yourself to others or even to your past.

Think about why weightloss actually happens and then ask yourself if those quick fix claims make any sense.

If you care, do the research.

If you care, think deeper.

If you care, help someone you love think deeper, too.
